The Sista Gurl Mystique

Happy Hump Day Sista Gurls!

The power that lies within black women is astounding. We have been giving the unique tooling through ancestry, to make the impossible possible! So what does that mean for the SistaGurl blog? Well it was my greatest wish at the start of this blog to make sure my readers are empowered enough to take that energy back to our girls.

Black girls always need our support. They need to be triaged, before there is anything wrong, they need to see a narrative that speaks to who they are, and who they can potentially become. So finally, I had an AHA moment. At every event that I attended, I would always see a familiar face, an Evanston Township Alumni face. These women are dominating in every field, and they are the exact image that I believe our girls should see.

So as the wheels turned in my head, I wrote this letter to each of them:

As I send this message there is a black girl sitting at a desk at an Evanston school not completely sure if she has what it takes to be what she wants to be when she grows up. She’s searching for someone like YOU to inspire her, a mirrored image into her future. You could be the beacon to propel her into the confidence that she will need to keep moving forward. It's my hope, that someone she knows is a subscriber to the Sista Gurl Blog and will lead her to you. Someone that not only went to the schools she went to, but is beautiful, strong, and a rising talent. I've had the luxury of interviewing celebrities and as aspiring as they were, there’s something about a woman who isn't searching for fame and is an everyday hero. This year I pledged to highlight women of color in a series called “TheSistaGurlMystique” and as an Evanston Alum I believe you are perfect for it. I would love the opportunity to feature you in this series. It would cost you nothing but 10-15 minutes of your time as we discuss how you became the hero I see today. Additionally, I’d like to chat about your hope and vision for the future for yourself and for our girls.

We will schedule time for a Facebook Live video so all of our followers can continue to fortify you in your excellence.
If this message and offer interests you, please let me know as I would be honored to motivate our girls through you!

I am excited to announce the start of a new series! Beginning this Thursday, February 1st, at 9PM CST, I will be launching the SistaGurl Mystique. Staring, Pastor Jackie Newsome, JD, China Panion, Dr. Jazmine Daye-Dillard,DDS, Kudzai Mutasa, and Emmy winner, Lena Waithe.

What is the #SistaGurlMystique? One of my favorite marvel Super Villains is "Mystique" from X-Men. A few weeks ago, I wrote a post where I mentioned, "I was so busy being plain clothes Mystique covering my blue". Basically stating that at that particular time, I was shrouding my authenticity, to keep up appearances. Which in turn, held me back.

The ladies I named above the embodiment of Mystique being blue, WITHOUT APOLOGY. They've done away with the need to be someone else, and in my opinion, there are no better role models to have, than a group of black women, who are happily pursuing their dreams while being THEMSELVES.

I urge everyone reading this to follow me on Facebook at Laura Miller for the live interviews starting February 1st. If you have a little sister, niece, daughter, or cousin, grab her every Thursday Night at 9PM CST, (If it's too late, she can watch it over breakfast!), so she may be inspired.

Wishing you abundant love and light.

Eternally, your Capt SistaGurl
Laura Miller

It's Not Love, it's Love Adjacent

It’s my thought that the heart and the mind take turns in sharing authority in how we pattern our personal decisions. They cannot both be in control at the same time, and I believe that there’s a celestial straw pulling to determine which will rule within each given moment. The dangerous part about this is, sometimes when the heart wins, we forget to use our brain . When this happens, we start making decisions that are completely passion driven, hunger driven, and backed behind a receptor that shouldn’t receive as much showtime as it’s getting. Sometimes you fall in love with someone that is all wrong for you. They don’t feed you spiritually, they don’t feed you mentally, and maybe they don’t respect you. But they have ONE or two things on our list, so we keep them around. But by osmosis, all the signs that you saw in the beginning appear a bit less obvious, and now you THINK you love this person. Your heart is in control and your brain is taking a break, your brain has

Ladies, Make Him Act Right! (From a man's perspective)

So ladies, we have a tendency to get advice from women about MEN far more than we should. So I have a special treat today. We're going to get some advice on how to entice, encourage, and exalt a man from you guested it.. A MAN. I picked one, who speaks with the sole purpose to educate. So some of his language may be a bit harder than you're used to but.. you will not be disappointed. Capt SistaGurl Out!  Introducing Tikko Brohey  Ladies do you feel like “dudes ain’t shit” or “dudes don’t act right?” Have you ever thought about the things you do that contribute to that? The answer is probably not.  Now granted there are dudes out there who just ain’t shit, and that’s just what it is. Majority of men are good men. But his partner can often determine just how good he'll actually be. Every woman deserves to be treated like a queen, as every man deserves to be treated like a king. The disconnect comes from when there’s an argument all the King and Queen shit is out the

The Black Freak

Recently Nicki Minaj received a wax statue at Madame Toussads wax museum in Las Vegas. Although this is a huge honor, there have been recent reports stating that her statue requires extra security surrounding it. Spectators at the museum have been flashing photos of her likeness in very indecent poses.  Why? Well, because she's on all fours and half naked. Now, I've never been to this place but I went on the website, and viewed a few statues, the only other one half naked, but standing is..RIHANNA. Nicki Minaj in my opinion has willingly fashioned her persona into a modern day Sarah Bartmaan . For those of you unfamiliar, she is best known as the Venus Hottentot, and in life she was an African Woman turned Dutch, turned French tourist attraction, turned science experiment. This is real, look it up if you don’t believe me. Anyway, I say this about Onika because, like Sarah, when there was a rescue attempt to save her, she said (according to history),
