Girls Vs. Girls: Sisterhood Struggles Part 1

Girls Vs. Girls: I love this photo. At first glance it shows the essence of sisterhood. A group of girls having fun with their day, enjoying each other carefree. As I look at it more, I can't help but notice that a few of the girls are smiling, but don't really seem happy. It could be because of their apprehension toward the photographer, or other shots showed them much happier, but in my mind, that's not the case. The other thing that haunts me is the thought that maybe there were more girls that weren't cool enough to be in this photo. The ostracized bunch that weren't chosen to be friends with the young princesses. The most absurd part is, even when girls do clique up, there's still division within the clique! Studies show that this behavior among girls starts as early as toddler-hood. We pattern ourselves after one another to be more "accepted". There's something about the feeling of acceptance that anchors us into conformity. I'

Sisterhood Challenges

By Capt SistaGurl Women are perfectly imperfect. Our splendors stretch beyond sight and if banded together, we could undoubtedly change the world. In order for this to occur, we need to unify. Before that can happen, it’s important to lay out some of the reasons why we struggle. Since our issues cannot be spelled out in one post. I will dedicate time to create a series. I chose it because I believe in the power of sisterhood, and have struggled and continue to struggle with my relationships with women just like everyone else. Not everyday is a g

Fashion and Beauty Symposium

By Sierra Pepin Sisters Arella Swan and Enyd Scott held their second annual Fashion and Beauty Symposium on Sunday, July 1 st . The event was held at the T'Mari' Exquisite Venue in Evergreen Park. Arella Swan (left) and Enyd Scott (right)  Swan, a fashion blogger, and her sister Scott, a makeup artist, are sought after for advice. “People always asked us questions. They asked me about fashion and styling,” says Swan. “And then with her, they asked her questions about like how to do eyebrows, how to do foundation, what’s the best thing to use.” Thus, the Fashion and Beauty Symposium was born last year and turned two last week. “We just decided that maybe we create a forum or some type of event to give the people all of the information in one thing. That’s kind of where the idea came from. Just us trying to educate and help out women,” says Swan. Enyd Scott (right) during her makeup presentation.   A

Reader discretion is advised. :) I think it's especially important that when something is on my mind, I share it with my SG readers. Yall are my girls and therefore we must be able to have those conversations that aren't always popular for the betterment of womanhood. Your vagina, can be compared to no other vagina, it was carefully crafted just for your in divine splendor.  It's special. You are special. Here's the part that we so often forget and rarely point out though. As special as your Kitty Love Blossom is, it's only special to you! Literally just you. Sometimes you may go to the ob/gyne and the physician will tell you how beautiful it is, and how firm your cervix is, but that's because they value those types of things. In real life. It's apart of their job. Laura, why
