Dear White Women: No One is Free until We are All Free

Dear White Women,
You lost yesterday. The blow you felt to your very existence and the fiber in fabric of the place of your birth was harsh. People of color, native folks and LGBTQ folks everywhere can empathize with the way you are finally feeling. The part we can not fathom is how it took y’all so long to get here. The outrage of white women the past few weeks has been surprising to say the least. It was as if you were shocked by the unmitigated gall of white men to be white men.

Where have you been since the inception of American history? Or did you just not think they would have the causticity to do it to you? You see, no one is free until we are all free. Where was your outrage when Black children were being gunned down in the street? Where was your rage when Trans-women were being murdered for merely existing? And Native women vanishing without a trace?
You lost today because you’ve been so busy enjoying your privilege it never occurred to you that something given could be taken away. So as we embrace you today, hold you in our hearts as we always have; we have a request of our own. Please, don’t forget how you feel today. Know that white supremacy hurts us all; even the oppressor. It wears away at their humanity. In order to oppress others there must be a shift in consciousness.
You must see marginalized people as less than human in order to justify their treatment or turn a blind eye to their suffering. You have always understood your own objectification. Today you understand your silence and what it means to have your truths erased. This is something that lives deep in the rest of us. Sit in this. Feel your feelings and when you’re ready to join us, we can all get free.

We must rise like biscuits

The spirit woke me up at 4:30a this morning. The morning tune that blared in my mental subconscious sang, “We’re broken down and tired, living life like a merry-go-round.” I have to admit that I chuckled at the creator’s goal with this.   I promised to write back to my SG Peeps and I knew that there would be uncertainty today. Before I went to bed, having intentionally watched nothing regarding the election, I struggled with knowing what to say. Thankfully, as the saying goes, "he’s not here when you want him, he’s right on time."  My former pastor Rev. William Green has this sermon about a biscuit. At first listen, you’re thinking where is he going with this story?? He details how a biscuit is created, a little love and attention with the ingredients, then they’re combined and rolled or kneaded, cut into sections, or dropped. Then of course placed in the oven. He mentions all this for a few reasons, namely because there is a process before rising.  The biscuit havin...
