BBMAS Prince Tribute: Epic Fail

I just wasted three hours of my life watching the BBMAS anxiously awaiting the tribute to Prince.  So here's the thing. I have a bias, because I live for music but have never been pleased by how African American artists are underrepresented in award shows. Of course the only exception would be BET of course.  So I willingly jeopardized my principals and watched the show because I'm like maybe,  just maybe Madonna can pull this off.

Here's where my imagination expected the tribute to go. She'd come out in some fly purple suit (check), she'd maybe sing the most poppy of Prince tunes ( When Doves Cry or Raspberry Beret), doves would literally be released from her magical corset, and it would be a fantastic show. She would even impress us, with pulling Patty LaBelle from the audience and she'd give an a capella rendition of purple rain that would have the audience reaching to the Heavens and making the stank face simultaneously.

FRIENDS, this didn't happen.

Madonna sang, a song written by Prince for Sinead O' Connor, "Nothing Compares to You" and they seemingly grabbed brother Stevie Wonder from the audience and asked the man, "Hey, you know Purple Rain" right? Could you sing this with Madonna so we won't look like we called any legends other than her for this!?!? "

It was awful. And I'm being nice right now. How could an organization of people who literally quanitfy music and their sales not craft a more comprehensive tribute to Prince? I can come up with at least 6 different variations that would have worked better than what I saw.  Hopefully as the award season continues they can do better at calling people who actually can SING, or at the very least entertain to move the millions of Prince fans mourning the lost of the most fabulous of legends.

We must rise like biscuits

The spirit woke me up at 4:30a this morning. The morning tune that blared in my mental subconscious sang, “We’re broken down and tired, living life like a merry-go-round.” I have to admit that I chuckled at the creator’s goal with this.   I promised to write back to my SG Peeps and I knew that there would be uncertainty today. Before I went to bed, having intentionally watched nothing regarding the election, I struggled with knowing what to say. Thankfully, as the saying goes, "he’s not here when you want him, he’s right on time."  My former pastor Rev. William Green has this sermon about a biscuit. At first listen, you’re thinking where is he going with this story?? He details how a biscuit is created, a little love and attention with the ingredients, then they’re combined and rolled or kneaded, cut into sections, or dropped. Then of course placed in the oven. He mentions all this for a few reasons, namely because there is a process before rising.  The biscuit havin...
