Can We Be Your Sistas?

My mom  has a best friend, that she has had my whole life and most of hers (I think the count is, over 50 years now). Every week, they share their stories with each other either on the phone or in person. They can talk on the phone every day, and yet, each time, it would seem like, they hadn't spoken in years.

You could even feel the love in their voice messages, "Hey Ging, it's me G!", or " Hey Sista Gurl, it's me!" The love that they share for each other runs DEEP. They're soul mates. They're Sistas. The kind that are not blood related, the type of sister that is chosen. They lean on each other when times are rough, they celebrate in each others joy, it is the most perfect love.

Studies have proven that women live longer, and one of those reasons is because we allow ourselves the opportunity to vent, and share our frustrations to our friends. By doing so, the slums of every day life don't kill us (Look it up, it's a fact)!

Some of you may not have a SistaGurl in your life right now, I'm humbly asking, will you allow myself and my friends to be your Sistas? We will write with you in mind to help you, and ourselves, reconnect with our fabulous, wonderful, healthy, and spiritual selves. As a special bonus, we also have some BROTHAS to add input as well!

We will be blogging about Love and Relationships, Health and Beauty, News and Politics, Arts and Entertainment, and Black Excellence; you know, the typical sista-type conversation. So try us with your morning coffee, or on your ride to work, cause we have your back, and we're thinking about you!

Sending Love Your Way,

Capt SistaGurl.

We must rise like biscuits

The spirit woke me up at 4:30a this morning. The morning tune that blared in my mental subconscious sang, “We’re broken down and tired, living life like a merry-go-round.” I have to admit that I chuckled at the creator’s goal with this.   I promised to write back to my SG Peeps and I knew that there would be uncertainty today. Before I went to bed, having intentionally watched nothing regarding the election, I struggled with knowing what to say. Thankfully, as the saying goes, "he’s not here when you want him, he’s right on time."  My former pastor Rev. William Green has this sermon about a biscuit. At first listen, you’re thinking where is he going with this story?? He details how a biscuit is created, a little love and attention with the ingredients, then they’re combined and rolled or kneaded, cut into sections, or dropped. Then of course placed in the oven. He mentions all this for a few reasons, namely because there is a process before rising.  The biscuit havin...
